Mice

Long hair mouse
Java was a week away from turning 8 months old when she suddenly left us. Java had an inoperable golf ball size tumor on her leg. It did not seem to cause her any pain and I put her down before she would have to experience any. Even though short lived, Java had a full life. She was born in MN and I drove 7 hours one way to get her and 2 of her litter mates (I'm in WI). That was a very exciting day for me as these were the first long haired mice I've ever had. Shortly after I got her home and she adjusted I bred her and her sister to one of my short haired mice named Yin. They had 15 lovely babies between them. Java was a great mom. She loved being with the babies more than anything. When she had to leave us, her babies were not quite old enough to be weaned. Her sister Mocha took over full time in her place. I think Java taught Mocha a lot about mothering. Mocha loved her babies but it was Java that lived for it. I still remember her nursing all 15 babies at once! She had a hard time covering all of them. She even pushed the little babies to the top of the pile to be sure they got some much needed milk. Even though I did not have her for long, I cherish the time we did spend together. I'm also thrilled to have her babies to remember her by.

Cyclone"Cyclone"
Variety: marked chinchilla
11/?/03 - 1/06/04
He got his unique name because he ran in circles in his cage for hours on end. I went to the pet shop on 11/23/03 to pick up fish stuff and I brought home a mouse instead. I had no intentions on getting an other mouse, but I fell in love with this guy. He was all alone and so playful. He hid in a tube when the pet shop person tried to get him and she gave it to me (the tube with him in it). He went right on my hand without a problem. I did not have to hang on to him, as he was more than willing to stay on my hand (awe). The last thing I needed was one more male mouse but I fell in love and took him home.
CycloneA few days before his passing I noticed a raw spot on the back of his neck. I thought he had mites. The day before he died, his face turned red. That's when I knew it was not mites after all, it was to much protein in his diet. By the time I realized what was really wrong, it was too late. His quick passing came as a shock to everyone. I'm thankful I had him, even if it was only for a short while.

Simon
"Simon"
Simon was a special mouse to Sara. He was a father to 3 litters of beautiful babies. He passed away suddenly and the pain is unbearable to those left who loved him. He was only a year old and will be missed. His daughter looks exactly like him which will be a constant reminder of how much he was loved. We know he is in mousie heaven.

Though these babies did not live long, they were very loved and lived a very happy life.

Mommy mouse
"Mommy mouse"

Mommy mouse left us as fast as she came. Although her life was abruptly cut short she was loved as much as all our other special animals. Mommy mouse lived as a queen and even had a litter of a whopping 7 baby mice. Though frustrated at the size of her litter, she loved being a mom. Just before she passed I had plans to make her a mommy once more. Sometimes life does not always go as planned.
I'm thankful to have had her in my life even if it was short lived.
